At Personalised Support Services, we believe that everyone should have access to a secure and safe space to call home. We also believe that everyone deserves a home that is suited to their individual needs.

Finding the right residence that suits your needs is our goal. If you’ve thought about looking into the housing options available through the NDIS but aren’t sure where to begin, let’s begin together!

Housing Options with NDIS

There are various NDIS housing options or packages to choose from, depending on the amount of funding you have and your requirements. From medium-term and short-term accommodation to Special Disability Housing (SDA), there’s a housing option suitable for every person.

Short-Term and Medium-Term Accommodation

NDIS Short-Term Accommodation (STA) is a program funded by the NDIS to offer participants some time away from their daily routine. This stay is for you to unwind and recharge and do the things you love. If you select PSS for supported accommodation, you’ll have access to attractions, amenities, and leisure activities ideal for your stay.

Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA) is intended for those waiting for a long-term housing solution through the NDIS. Most participants will receive financial assistance for this kind of accommodation for as long as 90 days per year.

Although only specific individuals can be qualified to receive MTA. A person can be eligible for funding for NDIS Short-Term Accommodation in Melbourne if they demonstrate that their absence from home will give informal caregivers or support groups a necessary break or that a break could help them reach their goals to make new friends.

NDIS participants are eligible to receive up to 28 consecutive days for STA throughout the year. Participants can decide when and how they’d like to utilise the days. You can select specific days or weekends during the year that you’d like to access STA.

Specialised Disability Accommodation

Specialised Disability Accommodation (SDA) is designed specifically for NDIS people with complex health needs who require specially designed housing that is secure and easy for them to reside in. These specialty homes are outfitted with the features and technology needed to help individuals with severe functional impairments or the highest need for support.

A person may be eligible for funding to pay for SDA in the event of severe impairments to their functional abilities, which make it difficult for them to perform personal tasks, care for themselves or move independently. Individuals with high needs for assistance who require lots of physical and focused support from a specialist, could also be good candidates for SDA.

SDA does not offer ongoing support in-home. But, the NDIS can provide these services in the confines of an SDA home.

Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides participants with the resources and confidence they require to live more independently. SIL is available at the place where you currently reside or in a particular NDIS home. This kind of assistance is ideal for people who want to increase abilities in food preparation or cleaning.

SIL is best suited to NDIS participants with more complex demands for support during the day and night.

The funding cannot be used to pay for rent or purchase groceries.

NDIS Individual Living Options

Individual Living Options (ILO) are ideal for those who want a lifestyle with more flexibility and tailored to their requirements. ILO may include support in areas such as personal care to assistance with household chores such as making meals and cleaning.

ILO is appropriate for NDIS participants aged 18 or older who need a minimum of six hours of regular assistance at home. It is not suitable for those who require regular medical care or constant assistance during the night.
